School new playgrounds

The school new playgrounds opened in January. You can play basketball, football or talk to your friends.All the children want to go to have fun there. Like each playground they have advantages and disadvanteges:
-They do not have bins to throw rubbish.
-The fountain is crazy because when you try to drink your face gets wet.
-And also when it rains you can not go there and you have to stay on the other boring playgrounds.


It's very nice to go there when it's sunny, but there are not toilets and it is very incovenient.

Interview to Ana López, our saxophonist

Interviewer: Hello Ana. Which instrument do you play?
Ana: I play the saxophone
I: How long have you played it?
A: For four years
I: Oh my God! That's a long time! Do you enjoy playing?
A: Oh yes, I really enjoy playing.
I: How many hours do you practise every week?
A: Now I don't have much time so I don't practise so much. But if I had time, I would practise seven hours a week.
I: Where did you start learning?
A: In Raibon school
I: Have you ever taken part in a concert?
A: Oh yes. I've played in 10 concerts.
I: Where were they?
A: All of them were in my music school theatre.
I: What kind of saxophon do you play?
A: The contralto saxophone.
I: Would you like to be a saxophinist when you grow up?
A: I don't think so. I like it as a hobby but not as a profession.
I: Ok Ana. Thank you very much.

MELENDI:
Ramon Melendi  Espina (Oviedo,asturias, 21 January 1979,  is a spanish singer his music is mainly rumba with influences from rock, flamenco and pop. The singer has sold more than 1.000.000 copies of his records through the year 2012. It is one of the greatest singers-sonwriters in Spain.
We like Melendi because he writes a  very good lyrics and he sings very well.

DELAHOJA: 
Four MC's (LOKO23, F. ELEXTRANJERO, DAIS AND LSEBE) and DJ (DJLAESE) make Delahoja, group based in Pontevedra (Galicia) whose components have a refined style and remains latent in their musical creations, SPANISH AND ARABIC is their melt and it  flows quite naturally. The individual influences of each of its components, derived from rap, reggae and dancehall, and the mixture of languages ​​resulting from the interaction of cultures of its members, are essential features of style that has marked Delahoja.
We like delahoja because we like rap, and he writes  very good lyrics about life.


KISS:
Kiss is a American rock band formed in New York City in January of 1973.them members are: Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Ace Frehley and Peter Criss

Carnival Festival

Every year in the school we celebrate carnival.

In the morning there will be some activities for the ESO and bachillerato students  like basketball and dodgeball, in dodgeball if you win you will play versus the teachers, and the primary festival.

In the afternoon it's going to take place the ESO and bachillerato festival.

This year our class(2º ESO A) is going to disguise as a psychiatric hospital. 

Other groups are going to dress up as robots, brazilians, superheores, the choristers... 

The winners of the best show and the best dress are going to win a prize, like an excursion to the beach or watch a movie. So you must prepare your show very well and show it to the audience.

The football club Barcelona drew yesterday against the Valencia  football club, Messi failed a penalty shot and the referees clearly favoured Barcelona FC, as always. The president of the Barcelona FC complains about  the referees' decisions  but the truth is that the referees always favour them.

Changing subject... Let's talk about tennis:
Novak Djokovic won Rafa Nadal the final of the Australian Open on the longest final in the history of an open. The result was 5/7, 6/4, 6/2, 6/7 and 7/5 for Djokovic.

Book review

" THE THREE MUSKETEERS"

      This is the book that we had to read in our English class, we liked but it's not one of our fauvorite.
 The book was written by Alexandre Dumas in 1822, he was born on the 24nd of July 1802.
      The story happens in 1625 in France, it's about the three musketears and a boy called  D´artagnan that wanted to be a musketeer. The book has a lot of adventures and fights, it has romance and mystery, the end was very sad.
      There are a lot of films about this story and we saw one at school. This one had different adventures and some new characters. The film was more action-packed than the book.

Valentine's Day

Valentine's day is on the 14th february. It is a traditional celebration of english speaking countries that has been taken in other countries along the 20th century principally in that the lovers, boyfriends or spouses express his love and fondness mutually.

In Spain the tradition begins in 1969.

In some countries it is known as St Valentine's Day and in others as Day of the Love and the Friendship.

From the 10th century,in England all the men started to give cards of love and chocolates, roses...

 Some of them believe that it is a holiday Christianized of the paganism, since in the former Rome the adoration was realized to the god of the love, which Greek name was Eros and who the Romans were calling  Cupid. In this celebration the favors of the god were asked across gifts or offerings to manage to find this way the ideal lover.

CURIOSITIES

-In the northern countries, in these dates one is in the habit of producing the matching of the majority of birds, of there that this period sees as symbol of love.

Film Review Marley & Me

 This film is a dramatic-comedy. It's about a recently married couple. The girl wanted a baby, so her husband bought her a puppy, a labrador, he thought she'd love it! The dog was very bold so they had a lot of adventures and good and bad times. After all they had two sons and one daughter, they loved their dog Marley. But at the end the dog fell sick and they had to kill him.

The actors are Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston and the dog obviously. They were great, very funny, especially the dog, hahaha

Chocolate making

The cocoa trees are planted in America.They take the cocoa beans, and then they are dried them with Palm tree leaves and after months they take the beans and they melt the beans to make the cocoa butter. The milk is added if necessary and that's all.

When we went to the chocolate garden factory in ireland we made some chocolate Santas.
First we the decorated some parts of the mould with white chocolate. When it was dry, we filled it in with dark chocolate and we had to shake it very well to avoid air bubbles. Then we turned it once and again because we wanted the chocolate to be well distributed.

Book Review

The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate

This is a book by Jacqueline Kelly. It`s about a girl who lived in the begining of the 20th century, Calpurnia Tate. She wants to be a naturalist like her grand-father, when she grows up. But, she has to learn how to cook, how to sew..... like every girl in that time.
She starts to learn about nature with his grandpa while her mother gives her lessons. She isn't good at anything her mother wants to.
This book tells how she learnt, it tells about her family and friends and how life was at that time in Texas.
I loved this book because I thought it was different and very interesting. I totally recomend it.

Peace day

Next Monday we are going to celebrate the peace day at school. The International Day of Peace, also known as the World Peace Day, occurs annually on 21st September. It is dedicated to peace, and specifically the absence of war, such as might be occasioned by a temporary ceasefire in a combat zone. It is observed by many nations, political groups, military groups, and peoples. The first time this day was celebrated was in 1981. Here we celebrate it on 30th of January beacause is the anniversary of the dead of Mahatma Gandhi. The UN invites every year to contribute to improve the coexsistence.

At school the students of 2º of E.S.O are going to watch the film INVICTUS. It's about different lifestyles of the world.. We have to bring some songs about the peace to listen to them in the music class.

Santa Claus

Santa Claus, also known as Father Christmas or simply "Santa",  lives in a small hill called Korvatuturi in Lapland, Finland. Santa brings presents to the good children on Christmas Eve.

The saint who inspired the legend of Santa Claus was Saint Nicholas, who lived in the 4th Century AD and was famous for giving presents to the poor and for putting coins in the shoes of those who left them out for him.

Santa enters through the chimney and leaves the presents under the Christmas tree or in the stockings that hang from the mantelpiece.

New Year's Eve

 New Year's Eve is celebrated on 31st December. Some countries celebrate it in summer, and some others in winter. There are different ways to celebrate it, depending on the traditions of the country. 

• Spain: Spanish people eat 12 grapes when the clock strikes 12 at the turn of the year, that is,  we eat a grape for each bell ring (the sound of the bells is very fast so you must eat quickly). A Spanish legend says that if you go outside with an empty suitcase after the clock struck 12,  you will be lucky in your next trips.
• Portugal:  there are the same traditions than in Spain but instead of eating grapes, Portuguese people eat raisins.
• Brazil:  New Year's Eve is celebrated on the beach and people get dressed in white as they believe that if they wear white clothes on New Year's Eve, good luck will stay with them for the rest of the year.  At 12 o'clock people go into the sea with champagne and make a toast to the New Year.

• China: before beginning the celebration of the New Year, they clean their houses to eliminate all the bad luck from the year that they want to  leave behind. Dragons of plastic are used as decorations and firecrackers are thrown to eliminate bad spirits.

Spanish League News

David Villa from F.C. Barcelona has broken his shinbone and he will probably not go to the Eurocup. After last weekend match, Barcelona are level on 37 points with Real Madrid but Barcelona have played one match more. Barcelona played "better" than Real Madrid: Benzema scored in the first minute of the match, but Alexis, Cesc and Xavi scored for Barcelona.

As for the other teams in the Spanish League, Zaragoza, Racing and Sporting are in decline. Levante, Valencia, Sevilla and Málaga are in Europe. Atlético de Madrid and Villareal are doing a terrible league. Valencia and Villarreal are eliminated from the Champions.

Brookhouse Literary Awards. Christmas edition

Most of our talented writers have made great effort to write beautiful stories. We have read all kinds of stories; some were too short or too long, a bit too spooky to be christmas time. So far, we know that there was a tie and the jury decided to awards two writers instead of one. The winners will be announced this afeternoon and the stories will be published in the "Brookhouse Times" Christmas edition.

Recycling project

Our English project is about recycling. We explain the process of recycling, that is based on "the three Rs": Recycle, Reduce and Reuse.

Sorting the waste out is essential. There are four bins:

- The blue bin is for paper only,

- The yellow bin is for plastic and packaging only

- The light green bin is for glass only,

- The dark green bin is for organic waste.

If we recycle, our planet will be cleaner. 

What Can We Do To Protect The Environment?

As you know, the environment is changing. Our use and abuse of natural resources is causing global warming (the poles are melting), deforestation,  pollution in the cities, oceans and rivers, etc. 


Then, what can you do to protect the environment?

• Don't waste water: turn off the tap when you're not using it or take a shower instead of a bath. 
• Don't throw litter on the street.
• Recycle your rubbish at home.
• Use the public transport. That would help to reduce the exhaust fumes in cities.
• Don't pollute the oceans. That could kill a lot of fish.

You could do a lot of things more......... like.........Picking up the litter from the streets, turn off the lights every time you leave a room, turn off the TV when you're not watching it, turn off the heating when you are not at home or use less paper to save the rainforests.

ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMS

LITTER :  It's the rubbish that you find on the streets, like bottles, papers or tins. If you throw papers in the bin, everything will be cleaner. Don't you agree?

GLOBAL WARMING: It's an increase in the average temperature of the Earth. To reduce global warming we should: use public transport, reduce the amount of pollution in the cities and reduce factory fumes.
