Dance Festival

       Last friday (6th of may), the dance crew of the school performed traditional and modern dance at Valladares. We had been rehearsing all the year for it, and finally, we showed our moves to our classmates. It was a great experience to be in front of a crowd and also being able to work with other people who came to take part in our gala. Raquel Alvarellos and Luis carrera introduced all the dances. There were dancers of all ages because anyone who wants can dance, no matter the age.

Here you can see some pictures. At the beginning the dancers were very nervous but they were fantastic in the end. I think the audience enjoyed a lot.

CHOCOLATE MADNESS!

CHOCOLATE CUPCAKES

Ingredients:
3 eggs
1 spoonful of sugar
63 gr. dark chocolate
1 butter coffee spoon
1 spoonful of flour
1 baking powder coffee spoon

How to do it:
1. We put the small pieces of chocolate and the butter into a saucepan  and we prepare it for bain marie, trying the water not to reach the saucepan. 

2. We mix the sugar with the yolks and apart whip the egg whites.

3. Once we have the mixture (yolks and sugar), we add the flour and the baking powder. Then, we add the chocolate and the butter that we had melt previously (step1)

4. Finally, we add the whites carefully. 

Now, we have to prepare the molds and we fill the third part of them.

We heat the oven up to 180º, and we introduce the molds for 20 minutes more or less.

We should wait till they cool down to spread the chocolate frosting on top

Chocolate frosting

Ingredients:
163 gr dark chocolate
63 gr water
88 gr butter

How to do it: 

We put the chocolate and the water into bain marie. When it gets liquid we put it out of the fire and we add the butter until it melts. If we let it cool down  for one hour, it's easy to work with.

Now you can spread it on the cupcake top.

What kind of reader are you?

1. When you hear about a new huge best-seller, what do you do? a) Decide that whatever you do, you'll never read that book. Too plebian. b) You look up the review in the press to see if it's really any good or not. c) You run out to your nearest bookshop to buy it. d) You pretend you already read it when people are talking about it at a party. e) You wait for the movie version.

2. How many books are you currently reading? a) I only read one at a time, so I can give it all my attention. b) I've lost track. c) I'm in the middle of a few non-fiction books, a novel, and one of those classics I've always meant to get to. d) How can you be reading more than one book at a time? e) I'm reading mostly periodicals right now, as I don't have time to get into a novel.

THEATRE AND DANCE WEEK

Last Wednesday, the Secondary Theatre Group performed the play  "Zeus, una comedia" written by Woody Allen. It was directed by Albino Pombo and one of the main actors was Alex López, who we have interviewed.

Alex claims to be a person who doesn't like to answer his own questions, so we have made the effort of thinking of our own:


INTERVIEWER: How did you get interested in theatre?
ALEX LOPEZ:Since I was little I enjoyed to dress up in many ways and to do silly things, so one day my mother told me why not to enjoy the school drama club.

I:What kind of theatre do you like most?
A.L: Well, I like comedy and also drama, I like to be someone with a dark past.

I: So, if you like comedy do you consider yourself funny?
A.L: Well, generally I think that I'm a really funny person and I know that people enjoy listening to my jokes.

I: Are you intending to go further with the fact of being an actor?
A.L: Well, when I have an Oscar I will tell you.

I: Do you assimilate so much the characters you have to play?
A.L: Yes, normally.

I: How do you do this?
A.L: I assimilate them but I don't reach the point of living it, for example, if I have to be a paralytic I don't stay in a wheelchair for two months.
I: But, have you ever done a paralytic role?
A.L: In fact, no, but once I had to be a woman.
I: And how did you do it? Did you follow them?
A.L: I always follow them!! (laughs)
I: Do you think you have more opportunities with women since you started acting?
A.L: Yes, I have to admit it. I can't deny it.
I: Do you take in your lines easily?
A.L: Yes, it's very easy for me, with only reading it I have it, but in case of forgetting something I' not bad at improvising..
I:In the future, what will you prefer, cinema or theatre?
A.L: I think I would choose cinema because it opens more doors, you get more opportunities and with it I can earn more money. Appart from that, sometimes I don't like the pressure of thousands of eyes staring at me while I'm doing a monologue, for example.

I: Well, let's talk about your last play "Zeus, una comedia".
A.L: In this play I'm Diabetes, who is a greek and stupid actor that has become an alcoholic and poor person because he stopped acting, nobody wants him in their plays. One day, in a new play, he plays the part of Fidípides, a slave that doesn't know what to do. At the same time, Diabetes goes out of the play to discuss with the director that he wants to be the main actor and not a simply slave. Suddenly, the actor who was Zeus dies, so Diabetes has to improvise a new ending. In it, he's the hero of the story, against the director's feelings, but anyway he plays the ending as he wants.

Dance Festival

This year the dance group of secondary is taking part in the School Theatre Week. Our Festival will be tomorrow 6th May at 12.00. We hope to see you all there clapping your hands and enjoying the brilliant performances.

Our trip to Madrid (1º BACH)

The students from 1st of Baccalaureate went to Madrid last week, we spent 3 days there. We visited a lot of museums, it was a pity that we couldn't see all the paintings at the museums because we didn't have enough time.
Despite the fact that we didn't have time, we still had time to go shopping or visiting the city (some people left their money at home so they had to borrow some money from friends...)
The teachers (Miguel & Mestre) go every year but they still get lost in Madrid, however, they weren't the only ones who got lost; some of us did too but we are very intelligent so we decided to go to the restaurant where we had had lunch. We will always remember this trip because it was too hot and we didn't have water...
The trip in the bus was very "interesting": at first (6.00 a.m) people tried to sleep but it wasn't comfortable, later we listened to some music and watched some films like "No strings attached" (the film was censored by Mestre) and  at the end we watched "The Notebook" (some people cried). The trip back home was similar but  it felt shorter.

Atapuerca 4º ESO

Last week students of 4ºE.S.O. went to Burgos to visit many beautiful and interesting places. We arrived last Thursday, but we visited Atapuerca the next day.
Atapuerca is a site where there are many caves  which have preserved our history for years. The visit is very entertaining, we learned a lot about our ancestors and the way they lived. We could see, for example, a trap where hervivorous animals were trapped so that humans and other carnivorous animals  could eat them.
We could see that humans at that time were smarter than we think they were. The sights are very nice, the place was full of vegetation and the rocks had a long history. We also saw Miguelón, an ancestor who was very important in his tribe, (you can see him in the photo) we learned many things about his life.

Interview

1. Where did he study?

 He spent his childhood studying at "Muro" and "Labor" schools. Then, till university he studied at Guia's high school. Finally he studied hispanic and galician-portuguese Philology at the university of Santiago.

2. Which was his favourite course?

8º of E.G.B., which now is 2º of E.S.O., because he went to high school. But also C.O.U. (2º Baccalaureate)  because he met his future wife there.

3. What did he do in his free time?

He liked to play in his neighbourhood, riding his bycicle and playing football (Teis team) and basketball.
Now,  he likes driving his motorbike. He has just got the licence and he has an "OndaCD 300 Triumph Boneville", a naked motorbike model.
Also, he likes playing drums. He belongs to several music bands.

4. How did he start playing drums?

He has a brother who plays the guitar very well so he started playing it too,  but later he discovered that he preferred drums instead. His brother took him to some classes when he was fourteen and so he started playing the drums. Now, with his group called "La mafia", he sometimes plays at some locals.

5. Why did he come to this school?

Because they offered him that job. First, he wanted study to be a journalist but at the end he decided to study to be a teacher, which he also likes.

6.Why did students start calling him "mestre"?

When he arrived for the first time at this school he told the students to call him Carlos or "mestre". As no one else could have this nickname, he took it.

7.When did he start speaking galician?

He spoke galician when he was little but when he was at school it was a forbidden language. Although they didn´t have it as a subject till B.U.P., he kept speaking it at home.

1st ESO in Altamira and "Lagos de Covadonga"

Last week the students of 1st od ESO went to Cantabria and Asturias for two days. They visited the museum of Altamira where they could see the "neocave" which is a copy of the original paleolitic paintings found not far from there. They also went to the "national park of lagos de Covadonga"

 one was a temporary lake. In the biggest lake there is a statue of the Virgin of Covadonga,  it is inside the lake all the year but once a year they take it out  for a celebration in Picos de Europa.

It was very tiring, but we were very lucky because the weather was fantastic! We ate a packed-lunched near the lakes .We enjoyed the excursion a lot because we didn't have to come to class but we learned a lot of history and geology. By the way, Do you remember what a "MORRENA" is? We would like to have more excursions like that because we like this way of learning new things. We recomend you to go to this excursion, it's a good experience!

Maria and Fer are going to dance Newstyle, as we agree that the coreography where they changed half of a jacket was astonishing! Aroa and Airam street, because they have Sergio's flow

Ramón and Vero commercial, although they solve their difficulties very well, this time Ramón isn't getting on with Benji...

Otamendi and Saray lyric, because it was Otamendi's wish, and finally,

Paula and Bryan will delight us dancing broadway,as Pepe said that he wanted Paula to dance his style.

We think that the winners will be Paula and Bryan, don't you?

FAMA 5!

This new post is full of interesting news, pay attention!

Now in fama there are just 12 dancers fighting for the final, they are María, Vero, Airam, Fer, Bryan, Paula, Otamendi, Saray, Aroa, Imanol, Jox and Ramón. Most of them continue with their first partner, but they don't know they will have to change for one day. This new partners are Vero and Otamendi, they will explode with a coreography by Marbelys, Airam and María, this is going to make Aroa get nervous because they had a relationship before he started with Aroa, Fer and Bryan will have problems when it's time to work because they are both very proud and stubborn, Saray and Ramón will break the dancefloor with a streetdance coreography, and Paula, Aroa, Imanol and Jox make the other two couples.

Rafa returned with an explosive coreography, "El sofá" , a coreography very known at the programme full of passion. You can watch it here!

Trinity college and The book of kells

The Trinity College: 

The Trinity College was founded in 1592 by Queen Elizabeth, and it´s the only college of the university of Dublin, the oldest university in Ireland. Some famous writers studied at Trinity college such as Oscar Wilde, Bram Stoker and Samuel Beckett. The library of The Trinity college is the largest in Ireland You can see old books and one of the surviving medieval Gaelic harps.

 

The book of Kells: 

The book of Kells, is an illuminated manuscript Gospel book in Latin, containing the four Gospels of the New Testament together various prefatory text and tables. It was created by celtic monks around 800 or slightly earlier. It is in the library of the Trinity College.

Chicago River dyed green!

New Yorkers have their own unique way of celebrating Saint Patrick's Day, The Wearing of the Green. Green clothes, green flowers, and green hats are standard, but you'll also find unique green beers, green bagels, green water fountains, and even a green Empire State Building.

Saint Patrick

Saint Patrick's  the patron saint of Ireland there are many legends about this saint:

One of the best known legend of this character is that he sent the snakes of Ireland to the sea and they drowned.This is the reason why there aren't snakes in Ireland.

Another legend says that he used the tree leaf-shamrock to explain the Trinity that's why the shamrock is the symbol of Ireland.

Nowadays in Ireland they celebrate Saint Patrick on March 17th because that day  was the death of Saint Patrick, and his recognition as the patron saint of Ireland, that led to the celebration of March 17th as Saint Patrick's Day.  In Ireland, St. Patrick's Day is a holy, religious time with praying, singing and dance.  Outside Ireland, St. Patrick's Day is primarily a secular celebration of all things Irish.
